Pro Planet. Pro You.
Why plant-based eating is earth-friendly.
Why plant-based?
There are many well established health benefits to eating less animal protein including: decreased risk of heart disease, stroke, obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, Type 2 diabetes and many cancers.
Whether driven by a concern for their health or the health of the planet, consumers are looking for better and more varied, plant-based options. While 6% of consumers identify as vegan or vegetarian, 29% identify as flexitarian – ‘I eat a wide variety of foods, but trying to eat LESS meat, dairy, pork, chicken, etc.’ (Mottson survey, 2017)
The time has come for those wanting to add more plant-based meal occasions into their diet to have more elevated food choices. When dining out, why should someone’s plant-based menu choices be limited to a salad or ‘beany’ burger? Why can’t plant-based be the focal point of fine dining meal – a ‘center of the plate’ solution?
Plant forward.
From land use, to water supply, to greenhouse gas emissions, what you put on your plate has repercussions for the planet.
Research shows that meat and dairy products are fueling the climate crisis, while plant-based diets with a focus on fruits, vegetables, and grains help protect it.
Conserving Land
Animal agriculture takes up 77% of all agricultural land on Earth despite supplying only 17% of humanity’s food supply (Good Food Institute 2021)
Water Conservation
Water is one of the earth’s most precious resources. According to the Water Footprint Network, the average water footprint per gram of protein of beef is six times larger than for legumes.
Reducing Emissions
The climate-altering carbon emissions associated with a single gram of protein from beef are at least 7.5 times higher than those associated with a gram of protein from plant sources.

“We have always operated with sensitivity to the impact we have on our surroundings, but it is becoming clearer that the current food system is simply not sustainable, in so many ways.”
— Daniel Humm, Chef & Owner, Eleven Madison Park
“Raising animals for food introduces a major extra step of waste relative to the efficiency of us just eating the plant foods directly. If you just eat the plants, you cut out the middleman.”
— David L. Katz, Co-Author of How to Eat
